App Store Submission Checklist: Don't Miss These Steps

You've built your app. Now it's time to get it in front of users. Here's everything you need for a successful App Store submission.

Before Submission

App Metadata

  • [ ] App name (30 characters max for iOS)
  • [ ] Subtitle/short description
  • [ ] Full description (4000 characters)
  • [ ] Keywords (iOS: 100 chars, Android: unlimited)
  • [ ] Category selection
  • [ ] Content rating questionnaire

Visual Assets

  • [ ] App icon (1024x1024, no alpha)
  • [ ] Screenshots (minimum 3, all required sizes)
  • [ ] Preview video (optional but recommended)

Legal Requirements

  • [ ] Privacy Policy URL (required)
  • [ ] Terms of Service URL
  • [ ] Data collection disclosure
  • [ ] GDPR compliance (if serving EU users)

Technical

  • [ ] No crashes on launch
  • [ ] All features functional
  • [ ] No placeholder content
  • [ ] Proper error handling
  • [ ] Loading states for all async operations

Common Rejection Reasons

  1. Crashes or bugs — Test on multiple devices
  2. Incomplete metadata — Fill every field
  3. Misleading screenshots — Must show actual app
  4. Privacy issues — Disclose all data collection
  5. Guideline 4.2 — Minimum functionality required

After Submission

  • Review typically takes 24-48 hours
  • Respond promptly to any reviewer questions
  • Don't change the binary during review
